Hide Kawabata Special Exhibition

Hideto Kawabata became known to me in the late 1990s, on a tour bus going from Vienna to Budapest . We passed through immense fields of sunflowers, and I could see that the sea of yellow flowers and the red soils somehow struck a chord with him.

I did not know then that he would develop into the gifted artist he is today, but when I first saw some of his works a few years ago, I was immediately reminded of the beautiful colours of those Hungarian sunflower fields.

Hideto Kawabata's works to me express the joy of life, particularly with those vibrant, uplifting tones of red and yellow.

Other colours appear in the filigree of details that surprises and intrigues the viewers, who can let their eyes wander over the paintings for a long while, and still find new aspects on the canvas.

Those details in the works are amazing, and while they must be painstaking to paint, they appear to flow naturally and unforced.

It is almost impossible to say which are my favourites, but if I had to choose from the ones I have seen, I would name Elliptical Universe and Red Sun, Flower and Three Suns and Olive Fields.
